Curious Facts
Edrisi (Abdullah Ibn Idrisi, Ceuta – 1099) was one of the most important geographers, cartographers, and travellers of the Middle Ages. By the nicknames Al-Kartubi, El Cordobes (he was given this name because he learned the art of cartography in Cordoba) and Al-Sakali (the Sicilian because he did all his work on the island) he was an expert of the Arabic world and a traveller driven by his curiosity on physical, political and social geography.

…the Passion that drives you to discover Sicily

ShineSicily.com is a young and fresh project and our passion for this project began when we started visiting Sicily with small groups of friends (and the truth is that we are still doing it along with the tours we organise for indipendent travellers).

Our first group…

"Our first visit in Sicily! We saw a lot of things, but in Sicily you don’t have time to see everything not even in three weeks. Mornings with sea views, small beautiful streets in Palermo, fish market of Catania, desert beaches of San Vito lo Capo, the thirty seven churches in Ragusa, penne with aubergine sauce, cannoli di ricotta... Mmmmmmm, it was a fantastic trip." (Neus, Barcelona)

… and the second

…and many more

“Hi Boris! I have to say that Francesco was very (tourist guide of ShineSicily.com) attentive, we had a really good time and we liked the island so much that we want to go back. Sicilians, in general, are very friendly and helpful. What did I enjoy most? Ragusa and Modica, and of cource Agrigento. I send you a photo, dining with Francesco at an agritourism, where we had a delicious dinner.” (Encarna, Valencia)

“In total the trip was really nice. Sicily is a very different island and at the same time very close to our culture. People are very friendly and helpful. From what we have seen: Rural Sicily is lovely; Monumental Sicily has a stunning patrimony, but worn out or under reconstruction; the coast of Sicily, uneven, marvellous and abandoned areas. The best lodging was by difference Val di Kam due to peoples' warm welcoming, its friendly environment and personal contact. Piero is an extraordinary person and a hard worker.” (Ernest y Eulalia, St. Quirze del Valles)

“Salvatore Marletta (hiking guide of Trinakria Tours) sent a photo with the group and a couple good ones with last year’s explosion on Etna. I think that Sicily was a very positive experience for everyone; yesterday we went on an excursion, and we were talking about how wonderful is your "patria" and how well they have taken care of us. Hugs" (Antònia, Association of Hikers in Sabadell)

“Hi Boris! Well, here we are at home again! First of all, I should tell you that everything went ok with the lodging and the car hire. What we enjoyed most: Casina Gotta di Ferro that we stayed in and the hospitality of Franco and his wife. We covered almost 2.400 km by car; we went around the island and got impressed by the different landscapes” (Joan Carles, Barcelona)
